28.2.2023 | According to a study published on 28 February, intensifying great power competition increasingly complicates the ability to respond to global challenges through multilateral cooperation. Finland can respond to this transformation by strengthening the EU’s foreign policy capacities and by examining the potential of informal avenues of cooperation as well as partnerships in the context of the Global South.

18.1.2021 | The majority of Finnish companies are generally committed to respecting human rights. However, only a quarter of companies systematically and publicly assess the impact of their business activities on the realisation of human rights. The result is in line with the international average.

12.11.2021 | A research project commissioned by the Government investigated the types of complementary migration pathways available for people in need of international protection. The main focus of the study was on labour-based and study-based complementary pathways. The number of complementary pathway programmes is growing rapidly, and they have the potential to respond to the needs of both people in need of protection and the receiving societies.

19.3.2019 | Finland is committed to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (2030 Agenda) by 2030. Finland was ranked third best in the assessment of sustainability in all UN Member States published in 2018, and Finland also has a strong reputation as a global leader in sustainable development work. Yet, we have a long way to go to achieve the 2030 Agenda goals.

28.8.2019 | The global trends of change mean new challenges to the international human rights system. At the same time, the rules-based global order is fraying. The message of a recent report is that Finland should update the priorities of its human right policy to respond to the new challenges. To pursue a credible human rights policy, the human rights perspective should be better taken into account in Finland’s own actions as well.

3.10.2016 | A research group at the University of Tampere has established a set of Finnish human rights indicators to help in outlining an overall picture of fundamental and human rights in Finland. The indicators would serve as an important instrument in identifying structural human rights problems.
