27.9.2022 | The Strategic Research Council's (SRC) funding instrument for strategic research has offered diverse opportunities for organising research on social policy, developing society's functions and solving major challenges. This is according to a new evaluation report published on 27 September, which examined whether strategic research has achieved its objectives. The evaluation focused on a seven-year period between 2014 and 2020.

21.12.2018 | This evaluation was carried out as a part of the Government’s 2017 Analysis, Assessment and Research Plan, and it focused on the overall reform of the Government’s research institution and financing (TULA Reform) following a decision-in-principle made by the Government in 2013. In accordance with the evaluation report published 21st of December, this field of research is not in need of new extensive structural changes.

13.1.2022 | A new study published on 13 January shows that the most effective support policy for research and development is to allocate subsidies to businesses with high R&D productivity or innovation capacity. Uniformly targeted subsidies – which in practical innovation policy are similar to R&D tax incentives – also bring about substantial growth, albeit to a lesser extent than selectively targeted innovation subsidies.

A cost-efficient way to accelerate the market would be to introduce more electric vehicles to the vehicle base, but this will require effective promotion measures in the next few years.

27.3.2018 | The Finnish Environment Institute has together with the National Institute for Health and Welfare and the Finnish Meteorological Institute developed a method for assessing the costs caused by air pollution and the financial benefits of reducing it. The benefits result from the reduction in adverse health effects. The tool can be used to support decision-making concerning air pollution control both at the municipal and at the national level.
